Management
The major in management is interdisciplinary in intent and purpose and, as such, it integrates materials taken from other departments and majors. It focuses on the human and financial dynamics in the management of organizations in a technological and scientific global environment but, at the same time, it places emphasis on the local dynamics of management. Particular attention is paid to the development in students of the ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written, and in the use of the various electronic means of communication.
The programme in management is designed to help students become familiar with the methods of inquiry as they relate to the business environment and assisting student to understand how these methods of enquiry can and are applied to real-life business problems. As such, students are provided the opportunity to engage in problem solving and decision-making activities both as individuals and as members of a group having diverse ethnic, social and cultural backgrounds. Students are provided the opportunity to engage in decision-making and problem solving activities under conditions of certainty and uncertainty thereby providing the circumstances to allow the student to develop the ability to adapt and work in harmony with a dynamic and ever changing business environment. In this way the major in management prepares students for positions in all types of organizations as well build a foundation for further advanced studies in law, industrial relations, education and government.
